South Africa have been eliminated from the ongoing CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) after a 3-3 draw with Uganda in their final Group C fixture on Monday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The result sees South Africa join eight other nations—Mauritania, Guinea, Angola, the Central African Republic, Zambia, Nigeria, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso—on the list of teams already knocked out of the competition.
Uganda’s spirited campaign earned them the top spot in Group C with seven points from four matches, while Algeria finished second with six points and a superior goal difference over South Africa, who also collected six points but fell short on goals. Guinea ended the group stage in fourth place with four points, and Niger Republic finished bottom with two points.
The tournament continues on Tuesday with key group-stage fixtures as Nigeria take on Congo, while Sudan battle Senegal.
