Super Falcons forward and captain on the night, Rashidat Ajibade, has emphasized the depth and quality of Nigeria’s women’s national football team, stating that no single player is indispensable.

Ajibade, who netted both goals in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Cameroon in an international friendly at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta on Tuesday, said the team is strong enough to perform regardless of individual absences.

“The Super Falcons is a big and talented squad. No player is indispensable,” said the Atlético Madrid star at the post-match press conference. “Whenever anyone is given the chance, she steps up. If I’m not there or someone else is missing, those available will always rise to the occasion. That’s the strength of this team—we have quality and depth.”

The match against Cameroon was part of Nigeria’s preparation for the upcoming Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON), as the team looks to maintain its status as the most successful women’s side on the continent.

Meanwhile, Head Coach Justin Madugu echoed Ajibade’s sentiments on team depth, while shedding light on the technical decisions behind the team’s performance. “Every game starts with a plan, but you must be flexible,” Madugu explained. “Sometimes your initial strategy doesn’t work, so you switch to Plan B or even Plan C. Ultimately, what matters is that the players are comfortable, perform well, and win.”

Madugu emphasized that the team’s approach is based on adaptability and enjoyment.

“We want the girls to enjoy their football. That’s when they truly express themselves. The formation and tactics may change depending on the opposition, but the goal is always the same—play well, score goals, and win matches.”

The win over Cameroon marks a promising step in Nigeria’s WAFCON preparations and highlights the team’s growing chemistry and tactical flexibility under Madugu’s leadership.
