No Regrets Choosing Nigeria Over US – Toni Payne

Super Falcons midfielder Toni Payne has expressed complete satisfaction with her decision to represent Nigeria over the United States, describing it as a heartfelt choice driven by her desire to reconnect with her roots, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Ahead of Nigeria’s quarter-final clash against Zambia at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Payne told Biola Solace-Chukwu in an interview that switching allegiance to Nigeria in 2021 remains one of the best decisions of her career.

“Even though I grew up dreaming of playing for the US, when the opportunity to represent Nigeria came, it was an easy and unquestionable decision for me. So, no regrets at all,” Payne said.

Born and raised in the United States, Payne came through the American youth system but revealed that playing for Nigeria has allowed her to forge a deeper connection with her cultural identity.

“I love being part of something bigger than myself,” she added.

“I love being around my culture something I didn’t always experience growing up in the US. I’m proud to represent my family, and the passion and love for football here is something truly special.”
