Newly acquired Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey is likely to have his Ajax debut delayed due to non-clearance by the Dutch Eredivisie organiser, BSNsports.com.ng reports.

The hard-working left-back joined the Amsterdam-based club this summer from the Scottish champions Rangers on a 5-year deal.

He was expected to make his much-awaited debut in the friendly match against Shaktar Donetsk on Tuesday but it was never meant to be as the clearance failed to arrive.

Ajax will take on arch-rival PSV Eindhoven on Saturday in the Johan Cruff Shield and according to report, Bassey is not likely to take part, a situation that did not go down well with Ajax's boss Alfred Schreuder.

“Of course that’s annoying.

“We don’t know when it will be cleared. Bassey is a boy who will immediately give us specific qualities.

“He may not come from the biggest league, but he has played in the Europa League Final. He has made very fast steps from his apprenticeship at Leicester," he said.
