Nwabali Departure A Big Blow For Us – Chippa United Coach
Sampson Adedeji
The head coach of South Africa Premier League side Chippa United, Vusumizi Vilakazi, has described the departure of Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali as a major setback for the club, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Nwabali, who recently parted ways with the Chilli Boys, ended his stay at the club earlier this week in what came as a shock to many within the South African football community.
Speaking to Sportswire, Vilakazi admitted that the Super Eagles goalkeeper’s exit was a significant loss, especially considering his recent achievements on the continental stage.
“It is definitely a blow for us, considering what Stanley achieved in Morocco,” Vilakazi said.
“Obviously, his decision and everything surrounding it did not involve me.
"It was a discussion between him and the chairman [Chippa Mpengesi], and they agreed to part ways.
“I can only work with players who are within the system. If there is a need to bring in another goalkeeper to increase competition, we will do so.”
Nwabali rose to prominence after his impressive performances for Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he played a key role in the Super Eagles’ campaign, attracting attention across the continent.
His exit leaves Chippa United with a significant void to fill as the club now looks to reorganise its goalkeeping department ahead of the remainder of the season.
