Rangers and Home-Base Super Eagles’ attacking sensation, Chidiebere Nwobodo and enterprising shot-stopper, Detan Ogundare have been rewarded for their exploits for the team in the month of April 2023 by emerging Player-of-the-Month and runner-up, BSNSports.com.ng has sourced.

Making the announcement, Tuesday, after the team’s morning training session, Technical Adviser to the ‘Flying Antelopes’, Coach Abdul Maikaba, described the process leading to picking the most outstanding player in the outgoing month as tasking and challenging as the votes were very close which according to him was a sign of great things to come for the team.

“It was a very tight contest which ultimately produced Nwobodo as the Player-of-the-Month for April/May after beating Detan to the second spot by a single vote. This goes a long way to show the cohesion and determination in the team and we are optimistic that our output in the later part of the season will take us far into the Federation Cup 2023. Congratulations to the nominees and winners” stated the experienced tactician.

Administrative Secretary of Rangers, Barrister Ferdinand Ugwuarua, who was around to make presentations to the winners, said, “This is very interesting and I am happy the way it went and believe that the unity in which the vote was casted will take us further to more successes, especially in the Federation Cup and other championships we are pushing to get involved.”


Team Doctor, Wen Udeoji, who also witnessed the event, congratulated the winners and the entire team for the determination displayed in the later part of the season that has seen the team go eight matches unbeaten, stressing, “I congratulate the winners of this award and believe it will not only spur them to do better in future matches but help the team challenge for honors in the remaining competitions of the season. I charge the entire team to work more harmoniously to achieve at the end of the season.”

Nwobodo who dethroned young left-back to earn the award for April was overjoyed as he said, “I thank my teammates for this show of love and dedicate the award to my teammates, coaches, fans, and management. I hope to keep doing my best in the remainder of the season to help us pick a continental ticket for next season. Also, I must give God all the glory for His grace.”

Financial rewards were attached to the awards as sponsored by the technical adviser and ably supported by the administrative secretary and team doctor. Ebuka Anthony and Kenneth Igboke were also nominated.
