Obasa Games 2025: Winners Emerge Ahead Of Football Finals

Fifty-four outstanding athletes have emerged as winners from six competitive sports—Chess, Scrabble, Table Tennis, Ayo Olopon, Boxing, and Athletics—at the 2025 Obasa Games held in Lagos, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

These young competitors demonstrated extraordinary zeal and a true spirit of sportsmanship, sharing an impressive prize pool of ₦6 million designated for the top three medalists in each sport.

Athletes from Educational District 1 dominated the events, showcasing their talent with many securing podium finishes.

In the chess competition, 15-year-old Adu Samuel from Asa Community High School claimed the gold medal, while Adeeiga David, a 14-year-old from Multi Grace College, took silver. The bronze medal was awarded to Patrick Prais of ABS College from Educational District 4.

In the Scrabble event, Okedairo Tomisin of Multi Grace College also excelled, winning gold. The silver medal went to Ajetunmobi Joel from Lagos City Senior High School (Educational District 4), while Aneef Kelani from Heritage Global Academy (Educational District 2) earned the bronze.

The athletics competition was equally thrilling. Shodipo Eniola and Ganiu Olamilekan were crowned the queen and king of the tracks in the Under-18 male and female categories. In the Under-15 division, John Bright and Okonkwo Nnwoma each clinched gold medals.

Kareem Yusuf from Power Boxing Club (Educational District 5) emerged as the champion in the Under-18 male boxing category, while Nimotallahi Ajayi of Aso Rock Boxing Club earned the title of queen of the ring.

Ayo Olopon made its debut at this year's Obasa Games, with Kasali Adams claiming the gold medal. Majaro Abideen from Dungunya Senior Grammar School (Educational District 2) took home the silver, and Junaid Zainab of Jaiye Ojokoro Senior College secured the bronze.

In Table Tennis, Aina Sultan of Okota Junior Secondary School rose to the top in the Under-15 boys’ category. He was closely followed by Adeleke Fikayo from Government College, Eric Moore, and Opeoluwa Isaac from Gbaja Boys Junior High School, who earned silver and bronze, respectively.

Omitaomu Samson from Cardos Junior High School in Ajegunle tied for third place. In the Under-15 girls’ category, Kuyoro Mary of Army Children Senior High School, Ikeja, claimed gold, while Ogidiolu Olasubomi of Multi Grace College and Amoo Fathia from Eko Akete Grammar School, Lagos Island earned silver and bronze, respectively.

Sulaimonan Rukayat from Orile Agege Community Junior High School shared third place.

In the Under-18 boys and girls competitions, Ekundayo Ishola of Nightingale Academy in Merian and Afolabo Aisha of State Senior High School in Oyewole Agege emerged as champions.

Armoire Quam of Birch Freeman Senior High School in Mushin and Olorunkoya Aisha from Odo Obara Senior High School in Epe claimed silver, while Adelanwa Hameed of Siddys Sydney School in Agege and Jimoh Saidat from Iponri Senior High School in Surulere secured bronze.

The duo of Savage Samod from Eko Akete Grammar School in Lagos Island and Olorunwa Sarah shared third place. Moshood Ajibola,

Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, expressed his excitement: "We are gradually reaching the conclusion of the Obasa Games 2025. It's been a remarkable event for everyone, especially the children who participated in the various sports.

"The future of sports in Nigeria looks very bright with the talents we have discovered so far in athletics, boxing, chess, scrabble, table tennis, and Ayo Olopon. Now that we have finished the finals in these six sports, our attention will turn to the knockout rounds and finals of the football event, scheduled for December 13, 2025."
