Ofili Saga: FG Spits Fires As Minister Set To Chair Fact-finding Committee

Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has said he won't hesitate to saddle the responsibility of becoming the Chairman of fact-finding committee to unravel those responsible for the omission of Favour Ofili name in the women's 100m race at the 2024 Olympic Games, BSNSprts.com.ng reports.

Enoh in a press conference in Paris on Friday said he won't keep quiet until those involved are fished out and punished accordingly.

He said, "I don't say things that I won't do. With the level of engagement I have had, it showed that I am not the one who will travel back to Nigeria and keep quiet about Ofili's saga.

"I am determined and the ministry is determined to get to the bottom of this. Who is it, that must take responsibility about the Ofili's matter?

"Someone must take responsibility, somebody must be the one that caused it. We tried the best we can because when one comes to the Olympics, the entire world came together, so every bad news won't do the country well.

For the first time, the Ministry made sure they avoided pitfalls of the past Olympics and we did everything in making sure we achieved that.

For instance, we made sure that all athletes were tested and escaped being banned from contesting at the Olympic. For the first time, we got the President to sign anti-doping and sent it to the Senate and the House of Representatives and the bill passed . We pursued it to that point. So, we did all of these and then somebody somewhere jeopardized the efforts and you think it's excusable?

"If in the past things like this happen and people go home and keep quiet, we won't keep quiet it this time.

Even if I have to be the one to sit down as the Chairman of Committee to know what the problem is, this may happen if I don't feel I trust anybody enough. I will do so because Nigeria deserves to know what happens that we allowed that to happen and caused us that embarrassment.

Team Nigeria went to the Olympics on the back of some great performances in qualifying events. They registered for 12 events, but sadly – like previous Games – failed to translate its continental dominance at the Olympics.
