The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the Ogun Women Run, pledging continued support for the event ahead of its fourth edition scheduled for 2026, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The race, organized in partnership with Brussel Sports Management Limited, has grown steadily since its inception, emerging as a key platform for promoting women’s participation in sports and healthy living across the state.

Managing Director of Brussel Sports Management Limited, Mrs. Yetunde Johnson, expressed appreciation for the government’s consistent backing, noting that the collaboration has been instrumental to the event’s success.

She said the state’s investment in sports development has created an enabling environment for the initiative to thrive, adding that preparations are underway to make the 2026 edition the most impactful yet.

The State Commissioner for Sports commended the organisers for their commitment to advancing women’s inclusion in sporting activities, describing the Ogun Women Run as a vital initiative that aligns with the government’s broader objectives.

He reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to supporting programmes that foster community engagement, promote wellness, and expand access to sporting opportunities.

Highlighting the state’s increasing profile as a destination for major sporting events, the commissioner referenced ongoing preparations for the 2025 National Sports Festival, the Confederation of African Athletics Under-18 and Under-20 Championships, and the West Africa Para Games.

According to him, such events underscore Ogun State’s strategic vision of leveraging sports as a tool for social development, youth empowerment, and economic growth.

With sustained government backing and private sector collaboration, the 2026 edition of the Ogun Women Run is expected to build on previous successes and further strengthen the state’s reputation as a leading hub for sports in Nigeria.
