Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has expressed disappointment after his side could only manage a 1-1 draw against Rivers United in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) opener on Friday, marking his 100th match in charge, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Playing at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, the champions fell behind just three minutes into the game before Victor Mbaoma struck to secure a point and prevent a losing start to the campaign.

Speaking after the match, Ogunmodede admitted the result dampened what should have been a special milestone in his career.

“It was an important game for me personally because it was my 100th match in charge of Remo Stars, and I really wanted to win it,” he said.

“Unfortunately, it ended in a draw. That’s football maybe we could even have lost, so I’ll take the point.”

He further acknowledged the psychological impact of playing away from their home ground.

“We know what is at stake, and although playing away from our real home is not an excuse, it has its effect. Even the best teams feel the difference when they are not on familiar ground,” the coach added.
