Okon Proud To Represent South Africa Over Nigeria

Nigeria-born defender Ime Okon has expressed his delight at choosing to represent South Africa’s Bafana Bafana ahead of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Supersport United player recently made his long-awaited debut during the COSAFA Cup after several previous call-ups.

Born in South Africa to a South African mother and Nigerian father, Okon said the decision to play for South Africa was an easy one.

 “It was never a difficult decision to choose which nation to represent,” he told SABC.

“This is what I’ve always wanted, and I’m really happy.”

“It’s been a great experience with the national team — all the players and coaches have been very helpful and welcoming.”

“Hopefully, I can get many more call-ups in the future.”

Okon’s commitment to Bafana Bafana adds depth to South Africa’s defensive options going forward.
