Okoronkwo Lone Strike Helps Falcons Pip Costa Rica To End Winless Run

Super Falcons finally get a win after losing 7 consecutive games.

Esther Okoronkwo scored the only goal as Nigeria beat Costa Rica to chalk their first win in three games at the 2023 Revelation Cup and their first win in 8 games.

Coach Randy Waldrum made a couple of changes to the team that started the games against Mexico, and Columbia by handing game time to new players.

In goal, Esther Balogun replaced dependable Chiamaka Nnadozie; Esther Okoronkwo, and Jennifer Onyi Echegini were also given a starting berth.

It was Jennifer Onyi Echegini and Esther Okoronkwo who combined to finally hand Nigeria the first win after seven consecutive defeats. Okoronkwo who calmly controlled the pass in the 18 yard box fired a powerful shot to the left roof of the net leaving Costa Rica goalkeeper and defenders scrambling on the ground.

Despite the fact that the Super Falcons played a much better game compared on Tuesday night to the last two games at the tournament, Nigerians are clamouring for the sack of the coach, Randy Waldrum
