Okoronkwo Predicts More Goals For Super Falcons After Tunisia Win

Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo believes Nigeria will find the net more frequently as the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations progresses, following their dominant 3–0 victory over Tunisia in Sunday’s Group B opener, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The 28-year-old came off the bench to make an immediate impact, earning the Player of the Match award ahead of teammate Rinsola Babajide, who also impressed in Casablanca.

Okoronkwo's presence injected urgency into Nigeria’s attack. She registered two shots, three key passes, an assist, and completed 16 passes at 62.5 per cent accuracy.

Her off-the-ball movement, combined with effective link-up play alongside Chiwendu Ihezuo and Rasheedat Ajibade, kept the Tunisian defence under constant pressure.

 Reflecting on the game during her post-match press conference, Okoronkwo praised the team’s gradual improvement after a cautious start.

“Obviously, the goals were going to come and they did. We just have to stay positive, focus on the next game, and aim for even more goals,” she stated.

She also revealed the instructions given by the coaching crew before her introduction: “Before I went in, the coach told me to be ready, help the team, and connect with my teammates. Play together, stay composed, and the goals will follow.”

The Super Falcons extended their unbeaten record in open play against North African opponents at WAFCON to seven matches.

Nigeria dominated the second half, creating numerous chances, with two efforts striking the woodwork and another crashing against the crossbar late on.
