Krasnodar forward Olakunle Olusegun has expressed his delight after receiving his first-ever invitation to the Super Eagles, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The former Golden Eaglets winger was a late addition to Nigeria’s squad for their upcoming international friendly against Russia, following a call-up from head coach Eric Chelle.

Olusegun, 23, joined the team in Moscow on Tuesday and participated in their first training session ahead of the match.

“Every player dreams of representing their national team. So, being part of the Super Eagles now is both a privilege and an honour for me. It’s not by my strength or ability alone,” Olusegun told the Super Eagles media.

“I believe I can do more, show what I’m capable of, and prove that I’m ready to wear the national colours.”

He also revealed his initial surprise at the invitation: “When I first got the message, I thought it was too soon for me. But my family encouraged me, saying, ‘Just go there and do your job like the professional you are.’”

Olusegun began his professional journey with Danish side Fremad Amager in 2020.

He recently celebrated a major milestone, helping Krasnodar clinch the Russian league title in the 2024/25 season.
