Olopade: Compliance Key As NSC Sanctions Non-Participating States

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing regulations at the 3rd National Para Games, warning that states which failed to honour participation requirements will face sanctions, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Director General of the Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, stressed that strict adherence to established rules is essential to maintaining professionalism, fairness, and credibility in Nigeria’s sports development framework. He noted that compliance not only ensures a level playing field but also protects opportunities for dedicated athletes to compete and excel.

According to him, the Commission remains focused on building a system that rewards discipline and respects institutional structures. He emphasised that the rules guiding the National Para Games are explicit and must be implemented without exception.

In line with Article 13(V) of the competition’s regulations, the NSC confirmed that any state which registered athletes but failed to participate in the Games will be barred from taking part in para events at the forthcoming National Sports Festival. The provision grants the organising committee the authority to enforce compliance in order to uphold discipline and integrity within the system.

Olopade further highlighted Nigeria’s longstanding reputation in para sports, particularly on the global stage, including at the Paralympic Games. He stated that the Commission is determined to preserve and strengthen this legacy by reinforcing structures that encourage talent discovery, development, and equitable competition.

At the conclusion of the Games, Enugu State emerged overall champions with a total of 55 medals, comprising 40 gold, eight silver, and seven bronze medals. Bayelsa State finished as first runners-up with 25 gold, 30 silver, and 34 bronze medals, while Edo State placed third with 25 gold, 14 silver, and 12 bronze medals.
