Olopade Arrives In Gaborone To Rally Team Nigeria Ahead of Relays

By BSN Sports

The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has arrived in Gaborone to boost the morale of Team Nigeria ahead of the 2026 World Athletics Relays, which commence on May 1, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Olopade’s presence is expected to provide encouragement to the Nigerian contingent, which has expressed readiness to compete across all six relay events at the competition.

Team Nigeria will be aiming not only for podium finishes but also to secure qualification for two major global competitions: the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing and the 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest.

The squad has been further strengthened by the arrival of sprint star Favour Ashe, who is set to feature in both the men’s 4x100m relay and the mixed 4x100m relay. Ashe is regarded as one of Nigeria’s leading sprinters and is among the few active athletes from the country to have broken the 10-second barrier in the 100 metres.

Also present in Gaborone to support the team are senior sports administrators, including Nigeria Olympic Committee Vice President Solomon Ogba and Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) President Tonobok Okowa.

With key officials and athletes in place, Team Nigeria will be looking to deliver strong performances as the competition gets underway.
