Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, showcased their dominance on the court to emerge as champions of the 4th Olumide Oyedeji Inter-Collegiate 3x3 Basketball Championship, held at the Dolphins Basketball Court in Onipetesi, Lagos, BSNSports.comng reports.

ABU defeated Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) 21–15 in a thrilling final played on Saturday, June 29, to clinch the prestigious title after two days of intense competition.

Former D’Tigers captain and tournament organiser, Olumide Oyedeji, expressed satisfaction with the event, emphasizing the importance of collegiate basketball in youth development.

 “I feel good seeing smiles on the players’ faces,” Oyedeji said after the final. “There hasn’t been a lot of collegiate basketball in Nigeria recently. This is where I was made—I played collegiate basketball myself. So, why not give back? I’ve been doing this, and I will continue to do it.”

Lead City University, Ibadan, secured third place after a convincing 21–14 victory over Osun State University (UNIOSUN) in the third-place playoff.

A total of 10 universities from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones qualified for the tournament, which featured 20 fast-paced matches across two days, offering a platform for rising talent to shine.

The event also recognized outstanding individual performances.

Abdulkadir Ibrahim of ABU Zaria was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament for his all-round excellence.

Godwin Ogbani Daniel of UNIOSUN emerged as Top Scorer, while

Emah Ubong Charles of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, dazzled in the Three-Point Shooting Contest, clinching the title for best long-range shooter.

The tournament concluded with a trophy presentation to the champions and prize distribution to top performers.

Looking ahead, Oyedeji—an AfroBasket-winning captain and former NBA player—revealed plans to expand the tournament further, possibly aligning the next edition with the Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) calendar later this year.
