NSC Director-General Boosts Team Nigeria Judo Camp Ahead of African Championship
Bukola Olopade, Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), paid a morale-boosting visit to the camp of Nigeria’s senior judo team on Monday as preparations intensify for the forthcoming African Senior Judo Championship in Nairobi, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Olopade, accompanied by members of his delegation, met with the athletes during a training session and reassured them of the Federal Government’s full support ahead of the continental competition later this month.
He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to ensuring optimal preparation for the team, stressing that all necessary measures are being taken to support their quest for success.
“I commend your dedication and commitment,” Olopade told the athletes. “You must remain disciplined and continue to work hard to achieve a successful outing in Kenya.”
He also conveyed goodwill from the Chairman of the Commission, Shehu Dikko, noting that the leadership remains determined to see sports such as judo receive the support required to reach their full potential.
Highlighting the importance of the championship, Olopade pointed out that the tournament serves as a pathway to Olympic qualification, underlining the seriousness attached to the team’s preparations.
He assured the athletes that their requests had been approved and urged them to represent Nigeria with excellence both in performance and conduct.
Team captain Kehinde Aremu expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a significant morale booster that has further motivated the squad to deliver strong performances.
The visit ended on a high note, with the Director-General interacting warmly with the athletes and offering additional encouragement.
The African Senior Judo Championship is scheduled to take place from April 20 to 29 in Nairobi, Kenya.
