Onana Opens Up On His Issues With Eto'o
Sampson Adedeji
Manchester United and Cameroon goalkeeper André Onana has addressed the long-running speculation surrounding his relationship with Samuel Eto'o, insisting that neither man owes the other anything, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The strained relationship between Onana and the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation has been widely discussed in recent years and was seen as one of the factors behind the goalkeeper's absence from the last Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking on the matter, Onana dismissed claims that Eto'o played a decisive role in shaping his professional career.
"I owe nothing to Samuel Eto'o, and Samuel Eto'o owes me nothing. I paid all the necessary fees to join his training center, and upon my departure, the center received its share from my transfer."
The former Ajax and Inter Milan goalkeeper also denied reports suggesting Eto'o facilitated his moves to Europe.
"He played no role in my transfers to Ajax or Inter Milan, contrary to what some claim. I've had the same manager since my youngest age, and it's he who manages my entire career."
Onana maintained that his rise to the top level of football has been built on his own ability, faith and hard work.
"If I've been playing at the highest level for several years, it's thanks to my talent, to God, and to my work, not thanks to someone else".
"I therefore ask the Cameroonian people and the media to put an end to these controversies that have no place being", he told Beesports
