Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor have reignited their pursuit of Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu, with reports indicating that Southampton are now prepared to accept a significantly reduced transfer fee, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Trabzonspor has long admired Onuachu, especially following his impressive loan spell last season, during which the Super Eagles forward scored 17 goals and provided four assists in just 25 appearances.

Despite their strong interest, the Turkish club failed to secure a permanent deal last summer, as Southampton’s initial €15 million asking price proved too steep.

Efforts to negotiate a lower fee at the time were unsuccessful. Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan recently confirmed the club had renewed inquiries about Onuachu’s availability, though the price continued to be a stumbling block.

However, that situation may be changing. Turkish outlet Fanatik reports that Southampton have lowered their valuation of the 30-year-old striker, driven by their recent relegation from the Premier League and Onuachu’s underwhelming performances since returning from loan.

Adding to the urgency, Onuachu has just one year left on his current deal with the English side, making a transfer this summer increasingly likely.
