Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu experienced mixed emotions on Sunday after scoring his first goal for Southampton, only for it to come in a 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

After nearly two seasons with the club, Onuachu finally netted his debut goal for the team, though it wasn't enough to secure a positive result.

Reflecting on the match, the Nigerian international expressed both joy and disappointment.

“I was told to go out and fight, keep the ball, and that’s exactly what I did,” he said.

“The whole team gave it their all in the second half. Lesley was outstanding again—he's a joy to watch.”

"Although it's disappointing to lose, as a striker, I’m confident after getting my first goal for the Saints, and I believe the fans will be happy for me,” he added.

So far, Onuachu has appeared in 11 league matches, scored one goal, and has yet to provide an assist.
