Optima Energy Gold Cup: Remo Stars Host Sporting Lagos, As 3SC Fight Sunshine In Semifinal

Optima

Defending champion Remo Stars will tackle Sporting Lagos in one of the semi-final matches of the ongoing Optima Energy Gold Cup 10th edition in Ikenne on Wednesday.

The Sky Blue Stars were leaders of Group A after they garnered 10 points from four group matches, while debutant Sporting Lagos were second in Group B with 8 points after they shared the spoils with Shooting Stars in their last group game played on Monday at the FC Ebedei Stadium in Sagamu.

It will be a battle of stars as 3SC and Sunshine Stars will renew their rivalry with the view to claiming the bragging rights of the southwest derby in the second semifinal billed for Thursday at the FC Ebedei Stadium.

The Oluyole Warriors got 10 points from their four group matches to go top of Group B while the Owena Whales from Akure came second in their group with 8 points.

In the other final group matches in the prestigious preseason tournament in Nigeria, Gombe United rounded off their campaign with a 2-1 win over FC Ebedei but was not enough to guarantee them a place in the last four.

The game between Gateway United and Hammola FC ended in a five-goal thriller. Despite coming back to level scores at 2-2 after Gateway United had gone up by two goals, the NLO side will rue its sloppy defending, after they let in the winning goal in the 83rd minute.
