Orlando Pirates Consider Super Eagles Star For Captaincy Role

Following the departure of long-serving skipper Innocent Maela, South African Premier League powerhouse Orlando Pirates are weighing up handing the captain’s armband to Super Eagles defender Olisa Ndah, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Ndah, who has been a key figure for the Buccaneers, served as stand-in captain last season. However, recurring injuries limited his game time and impact.

Instead of appointing a single permanent captain, the club is reportedly exploring the idea of a leadership committee that reflects the experience and influence of its senior players.

Both Ndah and Tapelo Xoki, who also captained the side in Maela’s absence, are among the frontrunners for the role.

Ndah brings a calm and composed leadership style shaped by his international experience, while Xoki is recognised for his vocal presence and organisational skills in defence.

“There’s still a lot to assess,” a source revealed.

“The coaches are considering Ndah and Xoki as part of a broader leadership group. The decision may also depend on who’s available on the pitch.”
