Pirates Cruise Past Chippa United As Super Eagles Goalkeeper Concedes Three

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali endured a difficult outing on Sunday as Chippa United suffered a 3-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates in a South African Premiership clash, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Nwabali was beaten three times as Pirates extended their dominance over Chippa, securing a seventh consecutive victory against the Eastern Cape side.

The result also marked the second time Nwabali has conceded three goals in a match since joining Chippa United. He previously allowed three goals against AmaZulu FC during the 2025 season.

After struggling to break down Chippa for much of the opening hour, Pirates finally found the breakthrough through Zambian forward Ghampani Lungu.

Lungu unleashed a powerful effort towards Nwabali's near post, but the Nigerian goalkeeper failed to keep the shot out, with the ball going through his hands. Nwabali will feel he could have done better with the effort.

Lungu's goal continued his impressive start to life at Orlando Pirates. The 27-year-old had also scored a spectacular goal in the club's MTN8 victory over Durban City the previous weekend.

Pirates doubled their advantage just four minutes later when Lebone Seema headed home from a corner. The defender rose highest at the back post and directed his header across goal and into the net, leaving Nwabali with little chance.

The second goal effectively ended Chippa's hopes of a comeback and allowed Pirates to control the remainder of the contest.

Seema, who was named PSL Defender of the Season last campaign, has made an immediate impact since joining Pirates. He had failed to score during his three seasons in TS Galaxy's first team but found the net twice for Pirates last season against Orbit College and Richards Bay.

Pirates completed the rout with just over three minutes of normal time remaining when Zimbabwean forward Daniel Msendani scored his first goal for the club.

Msendani capitalised on a Chippa mistake, winning possession around 35 yards from goal before racing towards Nwabali. With only the Nigerian goalkeeper to beat, he calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

The victory further underlined Orlando Pirates' recent dominance in this fixture. They have now won their last seven meetings with Chippa United since a 1-1 draw in 2023, scoring 16 goals and conceding just two during that run.
