Oshoala Questions CAF’s Repeated Allocation Of Major Events To Morocco

Six-time African Women’s Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala has publicly questioned the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) continued allocation of major tournaments and awards to Morocco, suggesting the country has received disproportionate hosting privileges in recent years, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Super Falcons forward raised her concerns on social media, pointing to Morocco’s role as host of several high-profile CAF events. These include the 2025 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, the CAF Awards ceremonies, the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Oshoala implied that CAF may be compensating Morocco through repeated hosting rights, a situation she believes has become excessive. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote:

“The big question here is when will this whole @CAF_Online compensation to Morocco end. Awards, tournaments and all… it’s getting boring now. We need other countries to step up. Everything concerning African football happens in Morocco — feels like that’s the new HQ.”

Her comments come amid growing debate within African football circles over the concentration of major CAF events in a single country.

Morocco’s recent prominence was further underscored by individual and team successes. Atlas Lions captain Achraf Hakimi was named the 2025 African Player of the Year, while Morocco secured qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Nigeria 4–2 on penalties.

CAF has not responded publicly to Oshoala’s remarks.
