Osimhen Fires Blank as Galatasaray Cruise to the Summit of Super Lig
By Niyi Busari
Defending champions Galatasaray maintained their perfect start to the season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Fatih Karagümrük at Rams Park on Saturday evening, moving to the top of the Turkish Super Lig table, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Turkish international Barış Alper Yılmaz, setting the tone for a dominant display. Karagümrük’s challenge became even more difficult when Marius Tresor Doh was sent off in the 23rd minute, leaving the visitors with ten men for the remainder of the game.
Galatasaray capitalised on the numerical advantage, doubling their lead in the 74th minute courtesy of an own goal from defender Fatih Kurucuk. Substitute Mauro Icardi, making his return after missing much of last season through injury, sealed the win in the 87th minute, finishing off a well-timed assist from former Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira.
Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, last season’s top scorer, made his first appearance of the campaign when he replaced Mario Lemina just past the hour mark. However, the forward was unable to find the back of the net.
The victory means Galatasaray have collected maximum points from their opening two matches and sit at the summit of the Super Lig, albeit having played one game more than several of their rivals.
