Nigeria faces a significant setback as injured Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen races against time to recover in time for the 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco, scheduled for December.

BSNSports.com.ng reports that the striker, who plays for Galatasaray in Turkey, had to leave the field at halftime during Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying defeat to DR Congo on Sunday in Rabat.

Osimhen was visibly upset as he was substituted for Akor Adams and was later seen limping around the pitch after the match.

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle commented, "Osimhen was taken off at halftime due to discomfort he felt behind his leg."

Having dealt with thigh and hamstring injuries in recent seasons, Osimhen now has just five weeks to recover before Nigeria's opening AFCON 2025 match against Tanzania on December 23.
