By Niyi Busari
Nigerian international Victor Osimhen was honored by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following a stellar season with Galatasaray, during which the club claimed both the Turkish Süper Lig title and the Turkish Cup.
President Erdoğan hosted the team at a special reception in recognition of their domestic double, with Osimhen receiving individual praise for his remarkable contributions. On loan from Serie A side Napoli, Osimhen emerged as a pivotal figure in Galatasaray’s campaign, netting 25 goals in the league and 36 in all competitions.
The 25-year-old striker was instrumental in Galatasaray’s title-clinching victory over Kayserispor, which secured the club's record-extending 25th Süper Lig championship. He also made history in the Turkish Cup final, scoring twice against Trabzonspor to set a new benchmark for the most goals by a foreign player in a single Turkish season.
Osimhen’s meeting with President Erdoğan underscores his growing influence and stature in Turkish football. With his loan spell now concluded, speculation is mounting over his future, as several top European clubs are reportedly eyeing a move for the prolific forward.
The Nigerian star’s achievements this season have not only solidified his role as a key figure for Galatasaray but also elevated his standing as one of the most sought-after strikers in international football.
