Osimhen Opens Up On Why He Returned Captain’s Armband To Gundogan

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has explained why he returned the captain’s armband to İlkay Gündoğan during a recent encounter, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Nigerian forward revealed that the gesture was purely out of respect for the former German international, who initially handed him the armband.

According to Osimhen, he felt it was only right for Gündoğan to continue leading the team given his status and influence in the squad.

“İlkay is someone I have great respect for,” Osimhen said. “He is a very valuable person for me and for the millions of football fans. 

"To be honest, when he brought me the captain's armband, it felt strange to me. I gave it back to him so he could lead us.”

The striker’s action has since been widely praised by fans, who described it as a mark of humility and professionalism from the Nigerian international.
