Osimhen’s Journey: From Naples Rift To Turkish Triumph
Sampson Adedeji
Victor Osimhen’s career took another dramatic turn last season when he joined Turkish giants Galatasaray on loan following a fallout with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
The dispute kept the Nigerian striker sidelined despite strong interest from Real Madrid, PSG, and even a record-breaking €200 million offer from Al Hilal.
When the European transfer window closed, Turkey remained the only door open and Galatasaray seized the opportunity.
A Season of Brilliance in Türkiye Osimhen repaid Galatasaray’s faith with a sensational campaign. In 41 appearances, he netted 37 goals and delivered eight assists, cementing his place as a fan favorite.
He was instrumental in Galatasaray’s Turkish Cup triumph, scoring twice in the final against Trabzonspor to seal a 3-0 victory.
In the league, his 26 goals earned him the Golden Boot, finishing ahead of Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek (21 goals).
The Numbers Speak
Napoli: 76 goals & 18 assists in 133 matches Serie A champion
Lille: 18 goals & 6 assists in 38 matches Charleroi: 20 goals & 4 assists in 36 matches
Galatasaray (loan): 37 goals & 8 assists in 41 matches
A Career on the Move From his humble beginnings at Nigeria’s Strikers Academy to a tough stint at Wolfsburg, Osimhen has rarely settled for long.
One prolific season at Charleroi earned him a move to Lille, followed by a record €78 million transfer to Napoli in 2020.
After three seasons in Italy his longest stay at any club the 25-year-old is on the move again.
His permanent switch to Galatasaray sparks the big question: Is Türkiye where Osimhen will finally find stability?
