Owumi: Remo Stars vs Insurance Game Is Premium Advertisement For NPFL

One of the biggest fixtures of the 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season holds this weekend in the picturesque city of Ikenne, birthplace of one of Nigeria's Political sage, the Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo. 

Ikenne is also home to Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria's current Vice President.

One of the Group A match-ups this weekend is the blockbuster game between hosts and NPFL model side, Remo Stars and legacy side, Bendel Insurance, the only team yet to taste defeat this season.

The appetizing Matchday 14 tie is one that the Interim Management Committee (IMC) is pulling all stops to ensure it goes without hitches and lives up to its billing as a clash of top dogs.

IMC Head of Operations, Davidson Owumi has already described the tie as "a meeting of two model teams of the NPFL in terms of their management approach and performance".

He has therefore admonished all actors in the fixture to ensure that the game produces a top-rated performance that followers of the NPFL will be proud of.

"We expect both clubs, their players, officials, and supporters of the clubs including the match officials to comport themselves and be true ambassadors of NPFL."

Owumi assured both teams and all football fans expected at the Remo Stars Stadium that the IMC is putting all required logistics in place for an excellent experience on the day.

"We consider this match on Sunday as a premium advertisement for the NPFL given the quality of the two sides.

"Remo Stars have been a model in private ownership of a professional football club in Nigeria and we are enthused by what they have on the ground.

"Bendel Insurance, on the other, hand has also demonstrated that a government-funded club can be innovative and professional in management hence we are expecting top-notch delivery from all especially the supporters of both clubs and most importantly, the match officials", remarked the IMC egg-head.

Insurance sits atop Group A after 13 matches while Remo Stars are in contention for one of the three playoff places.

Governor Sule inspects Lafia City Stadium

Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule on Friday inspected the ongoing installation of artificial turf on the pitch of the Lafia City Stadium.

Accompanied by the State Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Amb. Lucky Isaac Yargwa, S.A. on Sports Facilities to the Governor, Nathaniel Emmanuel, and Management Officials of the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the Governor urged the contractor, Reform Sports West Africa, to speed up work and complete it within the stipulated time.

He charged the contractor not to compromise on the quality of work.

Governor Sule noted that after its completion, the facility would provide the ambiance for more sporting activities to take place there.

He extended his gratitude to the Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, and the Ministry for ensuring that the project is given the desired attention.

On his part, Site Supervisor for Reform Sports West Africa, Engr. Ibrahim Bidex assured the Governor that the remaining portion of the field would be laid with the turf within the shortest possible period to allow the return of sporting activities.
