Oyo SWAN holds 5th Annual Ramadan Lecture

Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Oyo State chapter has concluded arrangements for its annual Ramadan Lecture for the year 2023.

The forthcoming Lecture, the fifth edition of the annual series, is scheduled for April 12 at the Dapo Aderogba Hall, NUJ Press Centre Iyaganku Ibadan.

A multi lingual body fitness expert, who is also the Iyalaje Adeen of Oyo State, Ambassador Romoke Ramat Ayinde will be the guest lecturer at the event.

She is expected to speak on *The Place of Fasting in the life of a Sportsperson*.

Speaking on the relevance of the topic of the lecture, the Chairman of the state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Mr Niyi Alebiosu said the topic was carefully chosen to enlighten sports journalists and Muslim faithfuls on the usefulness of fasting to athletes.

"We are using this year's Ramadan Lecture to explore the place of fasting in the life of an athlete. There is a popular misconception among people that fasting is inimical to the health and performance of sportsmen. The topic was chosen to correct this erroneous belief", Alebiosu said.

Oyo SWAN Chairman adds: "the guest lecturer is a renowned fitness expert who is knowledgeable in the compatibility of fasting with sports. We're very confident that she will handle the topic satisfactorily".

The lecture is expected to attract the creme de la creme of the society among who are the National President of Nigeria Judo Federation, Dr Musa Oshodi, a prominent academic turned Islamic cleric who is the founder and spiritual head of Shafaudeen in Islam Worldwide, Professor Sabitu Ariyo Olagoke and the Chief Executive Officer of Owoade Motors Alhaji Kamaldeen Owoade Debo.

Other distinguished Nigerians invited to grace the event are the CEO Cool Global Interlinks Ltd Alhaji Hamzat Ismail Kolade, an Ibadan based legal practitioner who is also a sports promoter Barrister Jubril Muhammed, Chairman Ibadan Football Association Barrister Rotimi Alli, the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Asiwaju Seun Fakorede as well as the state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Alhaji Ismail Ademola Babalola.
