The Oyo State Executive Council has approved the sum of ₦110 million for the camping and hosting of Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national football team, the Falconets, ahead of their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying fixture against Rwanda, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The financial approval, which was part of key resolutions taken at the Council meeting held on Tuesday, is aimed at ensuring seamless logistics and adequate preparations for the return leg of the second-round qualifier, scheduled to take place at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, on Saturday, September 27.
The first leg of the encounter will be held in Kigali, Rwanda, on Sunday, September 21.
As part of early preparations, Falconets’ head coach Moses Aduku had earlier in August invited 35 players to camp, as the team begins its journey toward securing a spot in the global tournament.
The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will take place in Poland, following the 2024 edition in Colombia, where 24 teams participated for the first time. In that tournament, the Falconets opened with a 1-0 victory over South Korea, lost 1-3 to Germany, and bounced back with a 4-0 win over Venezuela, before narrowly exiting the tournament in the Round of 16 with a 1-2 loss to Japan.
The Oyo State Government's financial backing highlights the state's commitment to sports development and national representation on the global stage.
