Pedro’s Appointment to Revive Sports Broadcasting – NPFL Chairman

Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Rotimi Pedro as the new Director-General of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), describing the decision as a major boost for sports broadcasting in the country, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Elegbeleye, reacting to the official announcement of Pedro’s appointment, noted that the seasoned sports marketing expert has long been a strong advocate for commercial broadcasting in Nigeria. Through his company, OSMI Sports, Pedro has consistently championed the acquisition and delivery of broadcast rights for major global events, including the Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup, and the CAF Africa Cup of Nations.

“I must commend the vision of Mr. President, who has continued to energize Nigeria’s socio-economic space through policies and appointments that align with his Renewed Hope agenda,” Elegbeleye said.

“Television is a critical component in the plan to grow the sports economy. At the NPFL, we are particularly excited at the prospect of working with the NTA to ensure our matches reach millions of Nigerians through their expansive free-to-air network. For years, we have faced challenges in establishing this partnership, and Pedro’s appointment offers fresh hope.”

The NPFL chairman expressed confidence that Pedro’s private sector experience will bring innovation and dynamism to the state-owned broadcaster, positioning it as a stronger partner in the development of Nigerian sports.

Pedro, the founder and CEO of OSMI, has over two decades of experience bridging the gap between broadcasters and international sports rights holders.
