Pinnick Risks Wrath Of Congress Men As Deadline Gets Closer

By Niyi Busari

The President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick may face the biggest battle in his eight years in office if the federation Annual General Assembly is not held soon, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

The FIFA Council member will need to settle with the congress men for his 'Third Term' ambition to see the light of the day as this is the first time the federation will have a divided house ahead of their Elective Congress.

Pinnick had stated that he will not contest for Third Term but the federation reluctance to hold elections sends signals that he may turn around to run for the position.

A majority of the NFF Congress in their second letter to the NFF had given two weeks ultimatum for convocation of Annual General Assembly and threatened to use their statutory power to invoke Article 29.2 of the NFF statute if their request not granted. The Concerned State FA Chairmen letter was received on 28th June, 2022 and two weeks after receipt expires on Tuesday 11th July, 2022.

It is however, sure that the country's football governing body will not hold any emergency Congress as Tuesday is a public holiday in Nigeria.

The congress men stated that the only hurdle stopping the federation from holding the AGA has been vacated from court, hence the need to hold the emergency congress to set the ball rolling for the elections scheduled to hold in September.

As at the time of filing this report, this newspaper could not confirm the next line of action after Tuesday ultimatum, we then, take a cursory look at the article 29.2 on convocation of emergency Annual General Assembly.

"The Executive Committee shall convene an extra ordinary General Assembly if 1/5 of the members of the NFF make such a request in writing. The request shall specify the item for the agenda. An extra ordinary General Assembly shall be held within three months of the receipt of the request.

"If the extra ordinary General Assembly is not convened. The members who requested it may convene the General Assembly themselves as a last resort. The members may request assistant from FIFA."
