Plateau United and Mighty Jets opened their campaigns at the 2026 NPFL Super 6 invitational preseason tournament with narrow victories on Wednesday, putting both wildcard entrants in an early position of strength.

Plateau United edged Rivers United 1–0 in the opening fixture at the New Jos Stadium, while Mighty Jets secured an identical victory over El-Kanemi Warriors in the second match of the day.

Plateau United made the brighter start against Rivers United in a tightly contested encounter, with both sides showing intensity and determination from the opening whistle.

The hosts eventually broke the deadlock shortly before the half-hour mark when Jibril Ibrahim found the back of the net to give Plateau United a 1–0 lead.

Rivers United responded by increasing the pressure in search of an equaliser, but Plateau United's defence remained compact and disciplined to preserve the advantage until the final whistle.

Mighty Jets also began their campaign with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over El-Kanemi Warriors.

Neither side was able to break the deadlock in a cagey first half, with both defences holding firm to ensure the teams went into the interval level at 0–0.

Mighty Jets eventually took the lead in the 56th minute through Usman Meyanga, who converted his opportunity to put the hosts in front.

El-Kanemi Warriors pushed forward in search of a response, but Mighty Jets remained resolute at the back and successfully protected their narrow advantage to claim all three points.

The results give both Plateau United and Mighty Jets a valuable early boost as the competition continues, while Rivers United and El-Kanemi Warriors will be looking to recover in their next fixtures.
