The Super Falcons' historic 10th Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title could be at risk as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) opens an investigation into a formal eligibility protest filed by the Moroccan Football Federation, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The complaint, submitted just hours before the 2025 WAFCON final in Rabat, challenges the eligibility of Nigerian defenders Ashleigh Plumptre and Michelle Alozie, citing alleged inconsistencies in their nationality documentation. Despite the looming off-field controversy, Nigeria defeated host nation Morocco 3–2 in a thrilling contest to claim a record-extending tenth continental crown.

Sources close to the situation confirm that CAF has launched an urgent legal review of the allegations. While no decision has been announced, the timing of Morocco’s petition has raised questions across the football world, with many perceiving it as a last-minute ploy to destabilize Nigeria’s preparations.

Within the Super Falcons’ camp, emotions are reportedly high. Michelle Alozie has yet to comment publicly, while Ashleigh Plumptre was seen visibly affected during pre-match training. A team official, who requested anonymity, described the atmosphere as “charged and determined,” noting, “This is more than a game. It’s a psychological war.”

Should CAF uphold Morocco’s protest, the repercussions could be far-reaching, potentially leading to Nigeria being stripped of the title. However, if the case is dismissed, the Super Falcons are set to receive a $1 million (approximately ₦1.5 billion) prize as WAFCON champions.
