Former Super Eagles goalkeeper and 1980 African Nations Cup winner, Moses Effiong, is dead in the United States of America after a prolonged ailments
Effiong’s death came barely three months after celebrating his 65th birthday with hopes of surviving the ailment that prompted his transfer abroad for medical care. Effiong, a member of Nigeria's Super Eagles squad when the country hosted and won the title for the first time was also an assistant coach for Akwa United.
The demise of the former national team goalkeeper was announced on Sunday by the Chairman of the Akwa state club, Paul Bassey, through a statement released by the club’s Media Director, Mfon Patrick.
Bassey described the late Effiong Moses as a complete gentleman, a core professional football coach, and a wonderful family man who was dedicated and committed to the success of every duty assigned to him.
