Sampson Adedeji
Manager of FC Porto, Francesco Farioli, has revealed that Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi turned down the chance to move to the Premier League during the winter transfer window, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Farioli disclosed that the left-back had concrete opportunities to leave the Portuguese giants but opted to remain and fight for his place at the club.
“Zaidu is part of our management plan. He had three very good games,” Farioli said.
“As for Zaidu, I am happy, especially because he had the chance to leave for the Premier League during the winter transfer window.
We spoke in the first half of the season he did not have many minutes, but I have always been satisfied with his attitude. Zaidu’s response was clear: he said he would be happy to continue at FC Porto.”
The Italian tactician further praised the Nigerian international’s mentality and commitment, noting his steady progress in recent weeks.
“The opportunity came and he is progressing. It says a lot about Zaidu’s mentality. He is an example of commitment and is loved by the fans,” he added.
Sanusi’s decision comes at a crucial point in his career, having recently marked his 150th appearance for Porto in a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.
