Premier League: Chukwueze Bags Brace, Iwobi Scores in Fulham’s 5–4 Loss To Manchester City

Samuel Chukwueze and Alex Iwobi were among the scorers on a dramatic night at Craven Cottage, but their goals could not prevent Fulham from falling 5–4 to Manchester City in a thrilling Premier League encounter on Tuesday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The victory sees second-placed City move to 28 points, trimming Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to just two. The Gunners can, however, restore a five-point cushion if they defeat Brentford on Wednesday. Fulham remain 15th with 17 points after the narrow defeat.

City looked to be cruising after racing into a 3–0 lead through Erling Haaland (17th minute), Tijjani Reijnders (37th minute) and Phil Foden (44th minute). Haaland’s opener was historic, marking his 100th Premier League goal in just 111 appearances—breaking Alan Shearer’s long-standing record of reaching the milestone in 124 games.

Emile Smith Rowe pulled one back for Fulham deep into first-half stoppage time, but City quickly restored their dominance as Foden struck again three minutes after the restart to make it 4–1. A Sander Berge own goal in the 54th minute extended the advantage to 5–1.

Iwobi ignited Fulham’s resurgence with a composed finish three minutes later, before substitute Chukwueze stole the spotlight. The Nigerian winger, introduced at halftime, struck twice in the 73rd and 78th minutes to bring Fulham within touching distance at 5–4.

Fulham came agonisingly close to completing the comeback in stoppage time, but Josko Gvardiol produced a crucial goal-line clearance to preserve City’s victory.

Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey also featured for Fulham, playing the entire 90 minutes in the nine-goal thriller.
