President Faye Rewards AFCON-Winning Lions With Cash, Coastal Land

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has announced a substantial reward package for the national football team following their triumph at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Teranga Lions secured their second continental title in five years after edging tournament hosts Morocco 1–0 in a tense final played on Sunday in Rabat.

Speaking during a grand reception held in Dakar on Tuesday night, President Faye revealed that each member of the victorious squad would receive a cash reward of 75 million CFA francs (approximately $134,000) along with a 1,500 square-metre plot of coastal land. Thousands of supporters lined the streets of the capital as the champions were welcomed home in scenes of nationwide celebration.

The reward scheme extends beyond the players. Officials of the Senegalese Football Federation are set to receive 50 million CFA francs each and 1,000 square-metre plots of land, while members of the Senegalese delegation to Morocco will be awarded 20 million CFA francs and 500 square-metre plots. In addition, staff of the Ministry of Sports will share bonuses amounting to 305 million CFA francs.

Head coach Pape Thiaw and all members of the AFCON-winning squad were also conferred with the rank of Commander of the National Order of the Lion, Senegal’s highest national honour, reserved for individuals who have made a profound impact on the nation’s history.

President Faye praised the team for their discipline, unity and commitment throughout the tournament, describing their success as a source of national pride.

“Dear Lions, you have honoured the flag entrusted to you. You have honoured Senegal,” Faye said. “You have shown by example that when Senegalese people move forward together with discipline and confidence, no challenge is beyond their reach.”

Senegal’s victory in Morocco adds to their maiden AFCON triumph in 2021, further cementing their status as one of Africa’s leading football nations.
