President Federation Cup: Ogbonda Happy To End Trophyless Managerial Run With Rivers Angels
Precious Oham
Whyte Ogbonda of Rivers Angels said he is delighted to end the trophyless run as a manager after he guided his team to their 9th National Cup title, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Blessing Okpe's first-half goal from the spot gave the Jewels of Rivers the much-needed victory over Naija Ratels to emerge champions of the prestigious Women's President Federation Cup.
In his post-match thoughts, Ogbonda noted that there was pressure on him to win having guided unfancied Ibom Angels to runners-up positions in 2017 and 2018 which they lost to Rivers Angels on both occasions.
He disclosed that the team was well-motivated having lost out of the 2024 NWFL Premiership at the playoffs in Yenagoa to eventual winners, Edo Queens.
"The match wasn't an easy one because I wasn't expecting an easy game from Naija Ratels.
"I've gotten to a team like Rivers Angels where I have experienced and young players to be able to get the trophy. There was pressure on me to win. I am happy today to have broken the jinx as a trophyless coach.
"The team is well motivated because when they lost the NWFL, we told them that they need to give themselves a market value and bargaining power to end the season with a trophy. That's what spurred them up to work hard to achieve the result today."
