Promise David Officially Files For FIFA Nationality Switch To Canada

Brampton-born striker Promise David, 23, has officially submitted his one-time FIFA nationality switch from Nigeria to Canada, according to BSNSports.com.ng reports.

David, who previously represented Nigeria at the youth level, informed the Nigeria Football Federation last month of his decision to commit to his country of birth.

"Canadian football raised me," David told The Athletic's Joshua Kloke.

"So I feel like I owe it back to Canada to perform for them. Playing for Nigeria was great, but it was just an opportunity. I like what Jesse Marsch has done with the team. You see the rapid increase. I think being a part of that history is an opportunity I should not pass up."

David is expected to be named in Jesse Marsch's provisional squad for next month's CONCACAF Nations League finals.
