Qatar 2022: FIFA Release 16 Referees

With the competition at the quarter-final stage, the World soccer ruling body has released 16 referees and has been asked to return home, BSNSports.com.ng understand.
On 19 May 2022, FIFA announced the list of 36 referees and 69 assistant referees from all six confederations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and they were selected from an extended list of over 50 countries.
After the group stage games and the round of 16 matches, a total number of 56 matches have been played in almost 3 weeks.
The football body on Thursday made it known that 16 referees have been released to return home.
The matches will return on Friday with quarter-final games slated for 2 days.
