Qatar 2022: Holland Coach Van Gaal Excited Over Senegal’s Mane Absence At World Cup
Netherlands coach, Louis van Gaal has admitted that facing Senegal without the services of African Player of The Year, Sadio Mane provides relief for his team.
Van Gaal recalled how he wanted to sign Sadio Mane for Manchester United when he was in charge at Old Trafford. He said he knows how much damage he can cause opponents in a match and admitted he is a fan of the Bayern Munich forward.
Netherlands will play Senegal in the second game of the Group A of the ongoing World Cup in Qatar.
The same group has the host nation, Qatar lost 0-2 to Ecuador, in the opening game of the tournament.
Sadio Mane, who single-handedly qualified Senegal for the tournament, will not be lacing his boots in Qatar after sustaining an injury in Bayern Munich.
“I wanted him when I was the manager at Man Utd,†Van Gaal told reporters ahead of the World Cup clash..
“I chased him at the time. I am a fan of Mane. He can break open a match and I would say Senegal will really miss him.â€
