Nigeria’s Rafiatu Folashade Lawal has delivered another record-breaking performance for Team Nigeria at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, smashing both the Commonwealth Games Record and Commonwealth Record in the women’s 58kg snatch event, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Lawal produced a stunning 103kg lift in the snatch category, setting a new benchmark and putting herself in a commanding position heading into the Clean & Jerk phase of the competition.

The Nigerian weightlifter currently leads the standings with a 9kg advantage over Canada’s Ann-Sophie Taschereau, who sits in second place after recording a 94kg snatch.

Lawal’s dominant display continues Nigeria’s impressive showing in weightlifting at the Glasgow Games, following a series of outstanding performances from the country’s athletes.

With the Clean & Jerk still to come, Lawal remains firmly in control as she targets another gold medal for Team Nigeria.
