Rangers head coach, Russell Martin, has offered an update on Cyriel Dessers after the Super Eagles forward picked up an injury during Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League qualifier against Viktoria Plzen, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Although Rangers fell 2-1 to Plzen on the night, they still advanced to the play-off stage of the competition with a 4-2 aggregate victory.
However, the progress came at a cost as Dessers sustained an ankle injury and was substituted in the 54th minute.
Speaking to the Daily Record about the incident, Martin admitted the injury looked serious.
“Yeah, it looks like a nasty one, so he’s in a brace now. We’ll have to just wait and see over the next couple of days, have a scan and see,” he said.
“We’ll keep our fingers crossed it’s not too bad for the big man.”
Dessers’ situation will be a concern for the Super Eagles coaching crew ahead of next month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.
The striker is among those tipped to make the squad for the qualifiers following his solid showing at the Unity Cup in London.
