Rangers To Play CAF Champions League Home Matches At Remo Stars Stadium

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Rangers International have reached an agreement with Remo Stars to use the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, for their home matches in the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The arrangement comes as renovation and compliance work continues at Rangers' home ground, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, popularly known as The Cathedral, in Enugu. The upgrades are aimed at meeting the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) stadium requirements for continental competitions.

The temporary relocation ensures that Rangers can host their opening Champions League fixtures at a CAF-approved venue while work on their home stadium progresses.

The Remo Stars Stadium has established itself as one of Nigeria's leading venues for continental football, having hosted several CAF inter-club matches in recent years. Its modern infrastructure, quality playing surface and compliance with CAF standards have made it a preferred alternative for Nigerian clubs requiring approved facilities.

Rangers will hope to make full use of the venue as they begin their quest for a place in the group stage of Africa's premier club competition.

The Flying Antelopes qualified for the Champions League after winning their ninth NPFL title and will be aiming to make a significant impact on the continental stage. Club officials remain optimistic that the renovation of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium will be completed in time for the later stages of the competition, should the Enugu-based side progress beyond the preliminary rounds.

The decision to temporarily relocate has been widely viewed as a practical solution, allowing the club to focus on its continental campaign without the uncertainty surrounding venue approval.
