Red-Hot Akor Adams Inspires Sevilla Comeback Win Over Athletic Bilbao
By BSN Sports
Super Eagles forward Akor Adams maintained his impressive post-AFCON form as Sevilla came from behind to secure a 2–1 victory over Athletic Bilbao at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, ending a four-match winless run in LaLiga, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Athletic Bilbao started on the front foot and took the lead midway through the first half when Robert Navarro finished from close range after Sevilla goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos had parried an initial effort from Urko Izeta.
Despite Athletic’s early control, Sevilla responded almost immediately. Just two minutes later, Peque restored parity with a composed finish, capitalising on intelligent build-up play from Juanlu Sánchez.
Adams emerged as the decisive figure early in the second half. The Nigeria international calmly converted from the penalty spot after Yuri Berchiche was adjudged to have handled the ball, sending goalkeeper Unai Simón the wrong way to put Sevilla ahead.
The goal was Adams’ third in two league matches since returning from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he recorded two goals and two assists for Nigeria. He has now contributed six goals and two assists in 15 LaLiga appearances this season.
Athletic, despite late tactical changes from head coach Ernesto Valverde, struggled to create clear chances in the closing stages as Sevilla managed the game effectively to secure all three points.
The result lifts Sevilla to 11th place in the LaLiga standings, easing lingering relegation concerns. Athletic Bilbao, meanwhile, remain without a league win in five matches ahead of a demanding European fixture in midweek.
