Reigning African champion Esther Kolawole wins gold at Grand Prix of Spain

Nigeria's Esther Kolawole (62kg) has beaten HAYLIE JAFFE of USA 10-0 superiority to lift gold at Grand Prix of Spain.

The highly spirited African champion came into the encounter with confidence after a convincing 10-0 superiority over Lydia Perez Tourino of Spain in the quarter-final and 4-1 victory against Polish Alicja Nowosad in the semi-final. 

The gold medal is a testament to Esther Kolawole's potential and belief of what she can achieve 

Reacting to the win, the President Nigeria Wrestling Federation, honourable Daniel Igali, on behalf of the board applauded the motivated reaction of Esther Kolawole, expressing confidence that the experience will shape her for future international events.

Daniel Igali noted that he is satisfied with the incredible outing, saying if she continues in that trajectory, Nigerians should be hopeful of many gold medals in the future from her.

After that victory in Spain, Esther Kolawole turns attention to the Ranking Series in Budapest, Hungary, which runs from 14th to 19th 2025 in preparation for the World Wrestling Championship in Croatia later this year.
